Past Students Work Analysis

This is another video of past students work, like many others it received full marks for its creating and received an A* Grade, so far it has over 13,000 views on YouTube and 7 comments and was posted by Kate B. The work has been used as a guideline for many including us, and was posted almost 2 years ago.

As a pop music video there are several codes and conventions that pop music videos follow, this includes a narrative storyline, a romance, a link with the visuals and lyrics, and most pop videos also sell a star brand, so they will most likely use lots of Close-Ups as well as use the main actress/actor as the artist themselves who sing the song.

This music video doesn't contain any links between the lyrics and the visuals as it follows a concept theme, this is where there is no particular story being told, instead random images and shots are being thrown together.

While there are no links between the visuals and the lyrics, the music video however does have great settings and has been thought about carefully, since there are several visual effects that follow the pop music video genre. At one point she is standing in front of a projector, which is transmitting different patterns onto her creating multiple effects. She also uses a two person shot when the main singer and rapper are standing in front of a screen, and since this is when the rapper is doing his part, she is standing behind him dancing, to make sure people know she is the artist.

R- City - Make up

Seeing as we have changed our song to Locked Away by R-City I thought to have a look at another song by them. The song I chose is called 'Make up' which is a pop song. Like locked away, instead of it being about having lots of girls surround them, like most pop songs, it focuses on them staying with one girl, even through the bad times. The video follows two couples who keep having a series of arguments, but they always end up making up afterwards. I think my favourite thing about this video is in most of the shots, it starts at normal speed and for a second it goes in slow motion, then back to normal speed. This makes the video fit with the music and the style of the video and I think that it gives the overall video a good effect. I would like to use this in our music video to make it seem better and more of a professional video.

• The results from the questionnaire show there aren't any major concerns with the music video, 
• 50% of the results we were not able to record why they didn’t like the idea because they didn’t have an answer. 
• The results show that the audience mainly enjoyed the theme surrounding the music video and felt that it told the story right and the historical factor can have some significance to it.
• While the song itself and the theme of having Bonnie and Clyde means that there is a platform for ideas to develop throughout the planning of the music video. 
• The negative factors of the theme however show that it could be seen as ‘poor’ or ‘unprofessional’. One major factor is the copyright of trouble by Iggy Azealia, 

How can this be improved?

An idea to help this would be to analyse this music video to see how we could improve it or make it different so it doesn’t follow the same path of being too close to another music video.

Music Video Questionnaire

We decided to do another questionnaire on our music video, as last time the results didn’t prove the music video would be successful due to the idea that it was too similar to the original music video. For this we decided to go on a different path to the music video but tried to stay linking to the lyrics so they went together and the song could make sense to those watching it. It’s important for us to receive feedback from our target audience so we can be sure that they’ll enjoy the music video.

Theme Research: R. City – Locked Away ft Adam Levine

Bonnie and Clyde

During The Great Depression two lovers Bonnie and Clyde made history with their crimes that shook America. Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow travelled all over America with their gang, they would rob and murder people if they were cornered or confronted over their crimes. During the times of 1931 and 1935 it was known as the ‘Public Enemy Era’ which is where the public turned on the country due to the devastation the Great Depression had caused too many families in the Unites States.

Bonnie and Clyde are known for their robbers of small banks, stores and gas stations, gaining the unwanted attention from police and essentially murdering around nine police officers as well as several members of the general public.

Their relationship has been a story of America and has attracted the attention of several film directors including Arthur Penn who in 1967 made the film Bonnie and Clyde. There has been many contradictions on the reports that surrounded Bonnie Elizabeth Parker, with many stating that during her companionship with Clyde she was present at over 100 of their crimes, however as much depicted by newspapers surrounding the two, she was not one who done the killing with a machine gun, with even people within the gang stating how they could not recall her ever holding a gun. The story lives upon modern day and olden day film directors.
