Time Managment

Time Management

Time management is all about ensuring you have enough time to complete tasks as well as time to do them to the best possible outcome. Managing your time well also means you're not as stressed out about uncompleted tasks that have to be done.

Time Management is essential during...

  • The filming process
  • Planning of Evaluation Questions
  • Answering Evaluation Questions 
  • Post Production
  • And the making of ancillary tasks
Not too much time can be spent on these essential parts of the process as the more you spend on one area, the further behind you get with the others. By planning ahead and completing these tasks before they're due it allows you to take the time needed to compete them to an appropriate standard.

Did we Time Manage well?

Throughout the whole process we started off well and was managing our time appropriately by dividing our time equally between four people, this allowed us to focus on particular areas each, while Megan was team leader, Jimmy done blog posts, Nathan researched on our ancillary tasks as well as directed and I organised blog posts as well took over basic team leader skills. When Jimmy left this meant we had to re-plan everything we needed to do and manage our team differently, as we weren't expecting this to particularly happen, there wasn't much that we could do and this meant we went a little of course and off schedule. We slowly started to go back however it was more difficult to manage our time with so much to do and not that many people left in our group.

Communication Skills

Communication Skills

For our team to make the most out of our A2, communication skill's are an important aspect of it, they help us to be able to see what we need to do and what we have done by communicating with our team members about the tasks they have completed. Communicating also mean's that we can complete harder tasks together or even to stem ideas for, this was particularly handy for when we were working on our theme idea for our music video, and also in AS when we were working on our thriller movie.

When were communication skill's most important?

  • When we were deciding on what theme to use for our music video
  • What to include on our blog
  • When we need to film. Communication skill's were particularly useful during this time as it allowed us to know when we were able to film and how much we could get done during this day .
  • Deciding on the designs for our ancillary tasks
  • Any post production editing, how do we want to portray our music video?
These are skills that are incredibly important and have played a major part in our post production and making our ancillary tasks. 

Do you feel your group has good communication skills?

While we were filming we made a group chat on Facebook and noted when we were all able to film, if we wanted to film on particular days it allowed us to message the cast early to ensure they knew when to film and what props they were to bring, we could also message them on the day so we know it would get done. 

All in all, i feel there could have been an improvement with our communication skills as a group and it could have gone a long better, but we done the best we could with the situations that had happened. And because of this at times our group came together more quicker since there was less of us and we didn't need to wait on those other people. Our communication skill's were at their best during the post production parts of our film since that was when we were communicating the most on what we wanted our music video to look like. Our communication skill's were at their worst however during filming as we could never decide on a day to film and people had made other plans during those days.

Music Video Example - Pop Music Video


Goodwin’s Music Video Analysis

The Weeknd – R&B/Soul

R&B is performed by a lot of musician these days, and more often than not they include soul with a modernised twist. Rappers often cover R&B and bring in their personal experiences with these songs. It’s often underrated by artists and is overlooked by award shows, however Soul music is a genre that learns to hold generations if families closer together as many soul artist wrote down their songs during difficult times in their life.

The Characteristics of R&B and Soul music are simply

·       Soulful singing over a strong backbeat
·       Commonalities in Rhythm
·       Bands Divided into a Rhythm
·       Complex blending of instruments

The pop music video I will be analysing for this post is the music video for "Starboy" by The Weeknd. This music video isn't like the typical pop music video in the sense that it isn't all colourful with bright colours, the Starboy music video is basically the opposite to your standard music video acting as against all the typical codes and conventions of a pop song music video. 

For example, this music video is an anti-stereotype video as traditionally pop music videos are supposed to be fast and upbeat with multiple colours as well as having a fun, positive meaning whereas this music video is the opposite to that as it contains very low dark lighting. The music video itself doesn’t have a direct link to the lyrics of the song, in fact there isn’t any link at all. The link I feel for the music video is in fact a link towards the artist’s character. The Weeknd is known for his unique, dark and mysterious character and I feel this was the link to the dark music video rather than the lyrics of the song itself.

There was obviously requirements that need to be filled from the record labels themselves as they are having artists sell their image. And in this particular music video there are a lot of uses from the way the camera has been shot, there are multiple uses of high angles to show his power as well as the use of lots of expensive cars in a car park. The most common shots used in this music video are close ups, to get a goof glimpse of the artists face, long shots, to show his control in his walking as well as empowerment and high angles, to show the same thing.

The music video is very monotone in most ways, as there are also no notions to the idea of voyeurism against women or men in this music video, and the only reference to product placement that can be seen is him driving his Lamborghini, and the main focus on that is the smooth driving on the cliff in which features a long shot of the car as well as then transitions into a close-up of the artist themselves.

CD Cover and Ad Analysis

Lady Gaga – The Fame

lady Gaga is known for her unique personality and appearances, once showing up on a red carpet wearing a meat dress, so why wouldn’t her album covers be the same? As Lady Gaga has this image to sell, it’s her different perspectives in this industry that have helped her build her empire and gather the fan base she has, for this it’s important to have such a close-up of her to represent that image that the label is clearly trying to get across.

The main colours used on the album are red, white and black, black as the background and white and red as the writing, the most important writing is in writing, whereas the added information is in white as it stands up more against the black but doesn’t take away the importance of the information in red. It helps draw the audiences focus onto the writing as if it was all white the reader would get bored and end up skipping through it anyway. By using a various amount of colours it not only represents the artist themselves but the album and the songs inside it.


On the advert its noted that it states when the tour will begin and the type of ways you are able to get a hold of this album, which includes buying it on CD as whereas downloading it digitally at the arena for exclusive opportunities, this is in a different colour to most of the other writing as this could be because they want the information to stand out and the date to be remembered in hopes of attracting a new audience. They start the pattern fresh after to show what singles are now available in hopes of also attracting a new audience if they recognise the song.

The actual Lady Gaga album isn’t much different its set out the same with the same black, red and white colours, however it doesn’t contain as much colour in the writing, the only writing on the album itself is the name of the artist and the name of the album. Because this takes up most of the album cover, if people found out about the album through the advert this means they should hopefully recognise the album when it’s on sale, as a lot of the writing will stand out since its white and black. Because there’s such little colour it makes the album more recognisable as you do not have to remember as much.
