A music
genre is a conventional method of
categorising something that identifies itself with some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or
set of technical and symbolic media conventions. Music genres are distinguished
by the musical form and musical style present in the musical material,
although in practice these terms are sometimes used interchangeably.
